Unfortunately, I didn't get an offer to install, just this: I'll try them and post to a specific more-relevant thread when I'm done. I found alternate directions to install Xcode and command-line tools here. I successfully installed ffmpeg yesterday. The simplest way to install them is to head into terminal and type 'cc' or 'swift'.Ĭc is the c compiler and swift is the Swift REPL, it doesn't matter which you type, they both (among others) need the command line tools and when they are not yet installed it will offer to download and install them for you. However, you only need the command line tools which take about 5 minutes. The full Xcode does take a long time to download especially when just updated as there is a lot of of demand for it and it's an obese installation. As their remarks say: "No more DMG files thanks to Apple and their notarizing scam." Of course you'll need a security override song and dance. These take over 24 hours to install, Apple store informed me. I successfully installed ffmpeg yesterday, and would wager it will do what you want.Īt first I tried installing it as a Homebrew formula, but after download and attempt to compile, it told me I needed the MacOS command line developer tools. Just ran sudo grep -ri hevc /* nothing but applications. There must be a parameter file somewhere, but web search comes up empty. I'd like to adjust encoding options such as bit rate, for the default value of the HEVC encoding profile seems very low and causes lots of artifacts. :-/Īny idea how to adjust the specific settings of MaOS's built-in media encoder applet? My conclusion so far: Profiles cannot be adjusted. Using both "PresetHEVC3840x2160" and "PresetHEVCHighestQuality" results in the same file size, which matches the GUI applet's output file size. Using "avconvert -help" reveals that there are several presets, that seemingly could not be changed without changing the program's source code. The MacOS applet uses the MacOS tool "avconvert".
